With COVID-19 safety precautions in place, the 15th annual Run for the Hills benefit trail run will take place in person on Sunday, June 6 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event begins at the south parking lot of the Benton County Fairgrounds and end at the same location.
The walk/run benefits the Greenbelt Land Trust Trail Fund. In the past fourteen years of the event, Run for the Hills has raised over $60,000 towards the cause, which has contributed towards the maintenance of local trails.
Greenbelt Land Trust is a local non-profit organization that works to conserve over 3,695 acres of “ecologically, agriculturally, and historically significant” lands of the Willamette Valley. They have been hard at work since 1989, achieving national accreditation in 2008 – a feat only 1,700 other land trusts have accomplished.
Run for the Hills consists of three parts:
The 30k course
Consists of hill trails and flat trails of Bald Hill Park (1.4 miles paved trails, 2.6 miles dirt trails)
Continues to Fitton Green Natural Area on the Mulkey Ridge connector trail
Considered challenging
The 8k course
Same Bald Hill Park trails as 30k course
Has two aid stations and possible musical relief at the top
The kids’ courses (two mile and quarter mile)
Non-competitive
Two-mile consists of nearly all paved trails
Quarter mile run begins on the bike path and continues through the parking lot
You can sign up as a runner here and as a volunteer here. For additional information, call 406-531-7545.
Cafe Yumm, Mazama Brewing Co., and Citizens Bank are a few of the event’s sponsors. Additional race information will be sent via email to registered runners and volunteers closer to race day.
