A man suspected of firing multiple shots with a handgun inside the Foster Farms processing facility on 8th Street surrendered to police earlier today.
There are no casualties or injuries currently reported, and police have not yet released the man’s name or which charges they would seek.
Police received 911 reports of someone making threats and firing shots at 8:11 am.
By 9:00 am, many local organizations and businesses, including the Linn-Benton Community College Benton Center, went into lockdown. LBCC sent out text alerts and social media notifications to students about an active shooter. An employee at the nearby Baja Fresh restaurant told reporters they heard a gunshot and ran inside.
A police department official told reporters at 9:15 am that “the threat was contained,” and that it was “no risk to the public but is still an active scene.”
Just as SWAT teams were forming up outside the building, around 9:49 am the suspect reportedly walked out of the building and surrendered to police before being taken away in an Oregon State Police vehicle.
Per a police press conference around 10:40 am, officials said the facility was still being swept by a state police bomb squad and others.
