Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley made the announcement on Friday, Dec. 17, that airports around the state will be getting an upgrade. The bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) allocates $43 million in federal funding to Oregon’s airports for key infrastructure needs.
Corvallis Municipal Airport is set to receive $295,000.
In a press release, Merkley gave minimal details as to the plan for each airport and where the funding will be spent, but said, “We passed this bipartisan infrastructure plan to address critical infrastructure concerns in the state, and I’m pleased this funding will upgrade our regional airport facilities to provide more safer and reliable travel for all Oregonians.”
The last time the City of Corvallis evaluated the need for any upgrades to the airport was in 2014. The City Council approved an Airport Master Plan that looked at any potential improvements that may be required to accommodate future aviation demands.
That plan was drafted by a working group of airport stakeholders that provided input around possible airport development issues.
