Have questions for this year’s Corvallis City Council candidates – let us know, and we’ll get them asked. The folks vying in contested races will be appearing in debates hosted by this newspaper next week, and as always, we’ll post the debates ward-by-ward as they get completed.
Of nine council seats, five are contested, with only one of those contests including an incumbent. Two sitting councilors are running unopposed. Two first-time candidates are also running unopposed. Councilors, at present, serve two-year terms.
Questions can be emailed to cityspeak@corvallisadvocate.com through Monday, Sept. 28 at 12 pm. Moderators will include Helen Higgins from the City Club of Corvallis and, Steven J. Schultz and Campbell Grove from The Corvallis Advocate.
“Among the things I’ve always appreciated about these debates is that the candidates generally bring their authentic selves, and because of that, viewers can get a real read of what someone would actually do if they’re elected or reelected,” said Schultz. “It’s not like national politics; the candidates have to be real because this really is still a small town where everyone mostly knows who everyone else is somehow.”
