Oregon State Science Pub. Old World Center, 341 SW 2nd St., Corvallis. 6 p.m. Free. Demographic disparities in financial literacy topic of Oregon State Science Pub talk March 1. Financial literacy and how an Oregon State University center seeks to reduce disparities among demographic groups on the topic will be the focus of OSU’s Science Pub event at 6 p.m. March 1. The free event, which can be attended in person at the Old-World Deli in Corvallis or viewed online, will feature a presentation by Prem Mathew, associate dean for undergraduate student development at Oregon State’s College of Business. The presentation is titled “CAFE. Stop by and have a hot cup of financial well-being.” Registration is required to attend Science Pub in person or to view it online.  Sponsors of Science Pub include the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, Old World Deli, Oregon State’s Research Office and Oregon State University. The HillBenders present: WhoGrass. The Whiteside Theatre, 361 SW Madison Ave., Corvallis. 7 p.m. $20-$30. Formed in April of 2008, and still touring with the original lineup, the HillBenders took performing arts venues, festivals and clubs all over the US by storm in 2015 with their critically-acclaimed “Tommy: A Bluegrass Opry.” They followed up the Tommy tour with a year of successful dates joining Keller Williams for “PettyGrass” (featuring Tom Petty hits). The HillBenders continue their firmly established presence as one of the most energetic and engaging progressive acoustic bands with their hit-laden “WhoGrass” show, as well as outstanding original music from their fourth studio album, appropriately and eponymously titled “The HillBenders.” Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
