Corvallis filmmaker Joe Sherlock has been helming independent features for three decades, mostly in the horror genre along with strange and comedic movies. Three of the latter will screen on Wednesdays in September at Darkside Cinema, all at 7 pm, and all for just $8 with all proceeds benefitting the theater.
Their hook for series: Celebrate locally-made oddball comedies with “Weirdo Wednesdays” at Darkside Cinema. Our response: We’re hooked. Let’s get into the films and when they’re scheduled for.
“Channel 99” screens on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 and is Sherlock’s nod to early 1980s late-night pay-cable fare. Werewolves, zombies, ghosts and other creatures and oddballs populate shorts and promos, wrapped up in a faux cable channel.
“Odder Noggins” screens on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. Inter-dimensional oddball Mr. Birch is back and conducting more strange experiments. Meanwhile a sexy spy weaves her way through a case fraught with double-agents, danger and weirdness. Filled with homages to the Doris Wishman/Chesty Morgan classic “Double Agent 73,” Sherlock’s sequel to his own “Odd Noggins” is a far-out flick that lives in its own strange world.
“Strange Things Happen at the Weird House 3” will hold its world premiere on Wednesday, September 30 and is the third installment in a wacky sex comedy franchise about free-spirited roommates and their fun friends who get wrapped up in all sorts of sci-fi and goofy weirdness. A recap of the first 2 installments will precede the feature.
Tickets are available now at darksidecinema.com. For more about Sherlock and his locally-made features, visit skullfaceastronaut.com
