Before we start unwrapping all The Arts Center’s August goodies – and there are many – note that now is the time to apply for membership on their Board, if you are so inclined.
“If you share and support our mission to inspire creativity and contribute to the well-being of our community through equitable arts access, consider joining our Board of Directors,” says their release.
We just basically love The Arts Center, so we’re guessing the Board member experience offers many an awesomeness. Applications are being accepted through Saturday, August 31.

MAIN GALLERY: Playdemonium, Robin Kerr & Coco Ma
Playdemonium, explores the multicultural experiences of Chinese-born New York artist, Coco Ma, and New Zealand-born Portland artist, Robin Kerr. Both artists utilize playful and multifaceted abstraction to explore complex themes of identity and personal relationships. Listen to them in conversation with Curator, Jennie Castle, on the latest episode of TAC Makes: A Podcast, on Spotify and YouTube.

CORRINE WOODMAN GALLERY: Of the Mind, Jennifer Lommers
Embracing fiber arts and vintage materials, Jennifer Lommers explores the tenuous moments connecting our past, present, and future. This multi-interdisciplinary, interactive show provides a unique view of the mind, simultaneously trapped and free. Join Lommers during the Corvallis Art Walk (CAW) reception and an informal drop-in Stitch & Share. CORVALLIS MUSEUM: Collaboration
Thursday, August 8, at the Corvallis Museum, it’s a panel discussion entitled, Then & Now: Art as Foundation. TAC’s immediate past and new directors, Cynthia Spencer and Erinn Gavaghan, join long-standing and brand-new Blackfish Gallery members to discuss questions about honoring legacy and history without stifling future generations. The panel is tied to a collaborative exhibit with Blackfish Gallery and The Arts Center, on display at the Corvallis Museum that began, Wednesday, July 31. MAIN GALLERY EVENT: Painless Magic
Portland-based artist, Carl Diehl, presents Painless Magic, a film about the life and lessons of his grand uncle, Dorny, a popular entertainer during the first half of the 20th century. Based on research, interviews, and writings, Painless Magic is embellished with animation and vaudeville-era ephemera. Dorny’s history includes Harry Houdini and Howard Thurston, prohibition era pranks, a WWII theater troupe, and the Magic Capital of the World. Featuring an introduction by Carl Diehl and a screening of the newly completed movie, followed by a Q & A with the artist.
