Today, June 24, 2022, the Federal Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade and ended our federal rights to abortion. It wasn’t a surprise as the decision had been leaked in May, but it is still a sorry and scary time for anyone who believes that all people should have control over their own bodies.
Benton County residents have already moved on this. Today, at 5:00 p.m., Bans Off Our Bodies will hold a peaceful protest in front of the Benton County Courthouse.
Oregonians are lucky that our rights are protected by our state Constitution, but we still have things to say and a right to be heard. Not to mention, as we hurl forward toward the November elections, we face the possibility of bringing in leadership who might not appreciate the way our Constitution sees this issue.
