With significant shifts in waste management and disposal practices, and the development of innovative technologies, Benton County is inviting passionate and committed individuals from across our community to step forward and join the Disposal Site Advisory Committee (DSAC).
What does the committee do?
The Disposal Site Advisory Committee, appointed by the Benton County Board of Commissioners, operates under a set of Board-adopted bylaws and the requirements of Oregon Revised Statutes ORS 459 to fill a crucial role in the monitoring of disposal site management. Here’s how you can contribute:
- Review and Advise: Collaborate with the disposal site permittee to assess the siting, operation, closure, and long-term monitoring of the Coffin Butte regional disposal site.
- Engage the Community: Provide a platform for community feedback, questions, and concerns regarding the disposal site, fostering dialogue between the community and site operators.
- Annual Reporting: Prepare a comprehensive annual report summarizing local residents’ concerns and the actions taken by the site operator to address them.
What can you expect?
As a member of the DSAC, you’ll typically participate in quarterly meetings, with additional sub-committee work and occasional extra meetings. On average, committee members dedicate five to ten hours per quarter to support the Board’s DSAC initiatives. No prior experience in solid waste or environmental fields is required
