Benton County Historical Society Gains Five Trustees

The Benton County Historical Society recently announced the addition of five members to its Board of Trustees: B. Bond Starker of Starker Forests, Mary Brauti of Corvallis, Jon Truckenbrod of Truckenbrod Art, Cody Hull of David Hull Tree Farms, and Larry Landis, former Director of the OSU Special Collections and Archives Research Center (SCARC). The Board now totals 16 members and five advisors; a trustee’s role is to protect the Society’s assets as well as stakeholders’ interests.

The Benton County Historical Society cares for more than 120,000 artifacts related to the area’s history, like the drafting set used by Joseph C. Avery when he surveyed Marysville – later Corvallis – and the map he made with it. The BCHS also offers an online collections database: as of Dec. 10, there are 753 objects, 1,589 individual documentary materials like diaries and letters, 2,132 photographs, and 2,878 books and periodicals available for examination online. Most of the collection has yet to be uploaded, but new items are added every day.

The Historical Society also recently hired a new Executive Director and Curator of Education. The Society announced plans to share a new marketing campaign and update their Strategic Plan in 2022.
