Benton County Residents Offered Reduced-Price Dust Reduction

The Benton County Public Works Department has come to an agreement with one distributor to deliver a dust control product at a reduced rate for Benton County residents on county and public roads this year.

Nutrien Ag Solutions, the distributor in question, will be applying Lignin – a naturally-occurring polymer found in wood that acts as a glue, holding the cellulose fibers of pulp together. Lignosulfonates act by binding the road surface particles together, leading water to evaporate as it dries. This leaves the dust particles trapped in a high-viscosity, naturally sticky material. Additionally, over time, the lignosulfonates become entirely insoluble due to solar heat.

Community members that would like dust control services, and that live on a public or county road, are able to call 541-766-6821 or download application permits here.

Completed applications with pre-payment must be received at Benton County Public Works, 360 SW Avery Ave, Corvallis, OR 97333 by 5:00 p.m., Monday, May 2. Following permit applications’ approval and payment, a receipt and flag will be mailed to those who wish to opt-in. Flags must be installed by Monday, May 9.
