Come Oct. 30, it will only have been year since Christy Wood took the reins at the Corvallis Chamber of Commerce – however, she has now announced she will be leaving.
Her last day will be Oct. 25.
“Just like many of you, my family has faced significant challenges due to the cost of living in our community. My fiancé has been offered a role that aligns with his professional goals and relocates us to a community that is substantially more affordable. It is the best path forward for our family’s financial and personal well-being,” said Wood in a statement to Chamber members, adding, “It is with a heavy heart that I step away from my role at the Chamber, but I believe it is in the best interest of both the organization and my family. I am confident that the Chamber will continue to thrive under new leadership, and I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition.”
Wood came to Corvallis from Burnsville, North Carolina, where she had been serving the Yancey County Chamber of Commerce, Tourism and Visitor Center as Executive Director. Wood has generally been seen as an energizing and resourceful leader in her short stint at the Corvallis Chamber.
In a release, Chamber board chair Miriam Estrada said, “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I share in the sadness of Christy’s resignation as CEO. In such a short time, she has helped to steer our ship and set our course towards a promising course. Christy’s vision, dedication, and leadership have elevated the Chamber and our entire local business community. We wish Christy and her family all the best.”
Estrada also announced that Ben Danley will take over as a part-time interim Director while the board seeks someone permanent. Danley is well regarded in Corvallis leadership circles.
Also well regarded is Curtis Wright, who will lead the board’s newly formed recruiting committee.
