On Monday, Corvallis City Council members adopted the budget for Fiscal Year 2023 – which will begin on July 1 – for $241.7 million. After more than two years of COVID, inflation and supply shortages, city officials were cautious about how much they could spend versus how much might be coming in.
“We’re entering a new fiscal year with more uncertainty on the horizon,” said City Manager Mark Shepard in a news release. “As careful stewards of community resources, it is our obligation to adopt a balanced budget that keeps costs contained as much as possible.”
The new budget allows for five new positions – four of them at Corvallis Public Works, and one for the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library – but turned down requests for seven additional staff.
Still, the total budget is up from Fiscal Year 2022’s adopted budget of $181,346,700 by about $60 million, and includes $5.7 million from the American Recovery Plan Act.
