Corvallis’ Academy for Lifelong Learning Announces New Classes

The Academy for Lifelong Learning, or ALL, Winter Term starts Tuesday, January 6.  If you’re unfamiliar with the Academy, they are a Corvallis-based organization that offers in-person, online, and hybrid classes. And occasionally they also offer onsite presentations and tours.

The diversity of their upcoming offerings represent the kind of range they cover, be it local, regional, national, or international. From a close look at farmer’s markets and the Corvallis Arts Center to protesting with humor and song. There is even a class on Nurdles

But then, the term classes could be a slight misnomer. There is no homework, no tests, or any grades. Attendees can either be in-person at the Corvallis Community Center (C3) or online, participating by listening and questioning presenters. Most of the classes will be recorded for optional viewing for 30 days. These classes, or presentations are about two hours each.

Each year, presentations are divided into three terms – Fall, Winter, and Spring.  There is also a short summer term when most of the onsite tours take place. Each term, volunteers arrange and schedule up to ten classes per strand.  Wait, what’s a strand. The Academy offers classes along five strands: Arts, Issues and Ideas, Humanities, Science, and Global Topics.

About the academy

The Academy for Lifelong Learning was founded in 2001 by recently retired Oregon State University faculty and staff. along with the OSU President’s wife. The organization is approaching its 25th anniversary. As a nonprofit volunteer run organization, they’ve kept their fees down. The $120 membership is good for a full year, three consecutive terms.

Free trials are available. You can get a Free Guest Membership for a single term. These enable folks to attend classes and receive weekly newsletters with class information and Zoom links.

The in-person presentations take place at the Corvallis Community Center (C3); the online presentations are offered through Zoom, and the hybrid presentations take place simultaneously at C3 and on Zoom.  To learn more about ALL and how to attend, visit https://academyforlifelonglearning.org/ or email admin@academyforlifelonglearning.org.
