Corvallis Arts Walk, Dec 20

Rainbow, by Hazek (age 4). Part of the Young Voices Traveling Show.

Have you ever noticed that you just get busier during the holidays? Life is funny like that. Hah, hilarious! But the good news is that between this, that, and the other holiday event, the only one you truly need to make time for is the Corvallis Arts Walk, as the community continues to kill it while we move into the new year. While there are a lot of great shows, you know what I love most? That I can say all of this without lying. We really are super lucky around here.

Standing out from the pack this month is an open studio event at The Arts Center with artists Claire Elam, Kimberly Long, Justin Lodge, and Tara Robinson. Work ranges from ceramics to paintings, and celebrates The Arts Center’s new-ish basement residency – a great idea if I ever heard one. You should definitely get out to this event, not only because the work looks stellar, but because institutions that truly support artists like this deserve to be supported in return.

Next up are two things I usually don’t go for – photography and functional ceramics. But the William Shields photo exhibit at Jagged Touch and Francesca Luciana’s ceramic vessels at Joan Truckenbrod look fantastic. Both collections of work give you an opportunity to rewrite the world around you a little bit, but in very different ways.

Over at CEI Artworks, all of the usual suspects are having a special holiday exhibit that will surely knock your socks off (possibly literally, who knows), and then just around the corner, Voices Gallery and The Hold are hosting their annual Young Voices Traveling Show, which will definitely remind you of how much cooler you were as a kid. I seriously loved this exhibit last year.

Last but certainly not least is the OSU art club (Montage!!!) annual juried show, this year featuring juror Julia Oldham. I’ve seen hide nor hair of this exhibit, but it’s a sure thing.

The CAW generally runs from 4 – 8 p.m. but some venues keep their own hours. For additional details, descriptions, and info visit http://www.corvallisartwalk.com.
