Herb Jansen served as an Army infantryman in Vietnam in 1968, the deadliest year of the Vietnam war and a tumultuous time back home. Years later, a box of letters he wrote to his parents from Vietnam provided a timeline and framework for his memoir, published in 2025. The memoir adds more stories Jansen hadn’t included in his letters because he didn’t want his parents to worry, and is titled, Vietnam Stories I Never Told.
