Weight. Corvallis Arts Center, 700 SW Madison Ave, Corvallis. 12 – 5 pm. Weight, an exhibition by Washington artist Crista Ann Ames, questions familiar feminine tropes in art and art history. Raised on a small subsistence farm, her work draws from personal experiences with pastoral life, animal husbandry, women’s craft and fertility. The coil-built clay human figures in this exhibition, which Ames sees as vessels, re-imagine classic sculptures, historic narratives and symbolism. Yukio Shimomura: My 2.5 Years Behind Barbed Wires in the US During WWII. Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, 645 NW Monroe Avenue, Corvallis. 3 pm. During WWII, more than 110,000 people were incarcerated after the attack on Pearl Harbor, from tiny infants to the elderly. This is a snapshot of one family’s experience. In this talk, Dr. Naomi Aguiar will unpack the algorithms that fuel large language models such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Character.ai.
