His unique work The Long Walk is performed over 1,674 days, the duration of the forced relocation of the Navajo people between 1863 and 1868. This fun and educational exhibit explores the fascinating world of onomatopoeia—words that imitate the sounds they describe. From “meow” to “woof” and “cock-a-doodle-doo,” onomatopoeic words bring animal sounds to life. Weight. Corvallis Arts Center, 700 SW Madison Ave, Corvallis. 12 – 5 pm. Weight, an exhibition by Washington artist Crista Ann Ames, questions familiar feminine tropes in art and art history. Raised on a small subsistence farm, her work draws from personal experiences with pastoral life, animal husbandry, women’s craft and fertility. The coil-built clay human figures in this exhibition, which Ames sees as vessels, re-imagine classic sculptures, historic narratives and symbolism.
