In moments of profound uncertainty, the future can feel both fragile and fiercely contested. Unwritten Futures brings together artists whose work imagines, questions, and challenges the directions we might take, collectively and individually. Jessie Rose Vala: Sympathetic Spells. Fairbanks Hall, 220 SW 26th St, Corvallis. 9 am – 5 pm. This installation is envisioned as a chamber for grief and spells. The Producers. The Majestic Theatre, 211 SW 2nd St, Corvallis. 7 pm. Cost: $23/general, $21/students and seniors. Rated PG-13. The plot is simple: a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, thereby bilking their backers (all “little old ladies”) out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive “Springtime for Hitler”), hiring a director, raising the money and finally going to prison for their misdeeds is a lesson in broad comic construction. Visit The Majestic Theatre for more info.
