Teaching Chinuk Wawa at Community College. Corvallis Museum, 411 SW 2nd St, Corvallis. Free, donations accepted. Chinuk Wawa is an Indigenous language of our region which is being revitalized as the community language of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and the Chinook Indian Nation. Since 2006, it is also offered as a college class via Lane Community College. The college language program has played many roles, helping tribal language workers to build their proficiency, helping Indigenous students connect to their ancestral language, providing a starting point for further study of other Indigenous languages, and introducing non-Indigenous students to elements of the language, cultures, and issues of Native people in our region. Jewish resistance during the Holocaust is still mostly understood in terms of rare armed group activities in the Nazi occupied East. Ketzia Schoneberg’s mixed media paintings and drawings constitute as temporal self-portraiture, depicting animals and the female figure within a psychospiritual framework and an expanded notion of species sentience. Reformation. The Arts Center, 700 SW Madison Ave, Corvallis. 12 – 5 pm. Working across painting, sculpture, and installation, Kim Smith Claudel creates work that exists in deliberate flux. Her process-driven approach embraces the ephemeral, the decaying, and the mundane; building visual systems that resist completion.
