Vending machines stocked with supplies such as sterile injection equipment, condoms, sharps containers, first aid kits, naloxone and pregnancy tests play an especially important role in rural communities. Academy for Lifelong Learning: Caught Up with OSU’s Legally Blind Rowing Coach. Online class. 9:30 – 11:30 am. Membership required. Dues are currently $110 for a full year. Membership can start at any quarter. Presenter: Prof. Karl Drlica [Rutgers Univ.], Author of Bitten by the Rowing Bug. During its first 50 years, OSU rowing was built on a tradition of scrounging and salvaging. In 1960, Coach Karl Drlica obtained two Navy barges for boathouses on the river. By the late 70s, the roofs began to leak. Since the barges had been gifted to OSU, there were no overhead funds to pay for repairs—a feature that gave Drlica’s adversaries in the University a tangible reason to discontinue support for rowing, then considered too dangerous and expensive.
