Teal Co-operative Art Gallery. Downtown Corvallis, 328 SW Second Street, Corvallis. 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. The Teal Co-operative Art Gallery has a reputation as the place to shop for hand-crafted, unique, made-in-Oregon gifts. Each year their team of dedicated Oregon artists transform an otherwise vacant and lifeless store front into a world of color, light and beauty, open for business during the months of November and December. On display and for sale are some of the finest works in fiber, leather, pottery, jewelry, glass, metal, wood work, mixed media, paper, and soap that the central Willamette Valley has to offer. A portion of the Gallery’s sales is donated to schools and programs in the community. Grab a provided wagon or a wheel barrel and have fun picking the best pumpkins you can find in the U-Pick Patch. The maze can be muddy This year their Corn Maze will also be a Scavenger Hunt. Get ready to delve into the eerie world of ghosts, murder, and grisly accidents. You’ll spend an hour hearing hair-raising stories outside the downtown Corvallis buildings where these hauntings, crimes, and accidents have been reported. FIJI Haunted House. Phi Gamma Delta, 348 NW 25th St., Corvallis. 6 p.m. – 12 a.m. Every Halloween, the brothers of Phi Gamma Delta throw a Haunted House to raise funds for the children of Jackson Street Youth Shelter. The entire 3-floor chapter house is converted into a haunted house, and tour guides take you through while brothers do their best to scare you. This year, our theme is Insane Asylum! 2023 Thomas Condon Lecture: Ivory, INTERPOL, intrigue: Using chemistry to solve forensic mysteries. LaSells Stewart Center, OSU, 875 SW 26th Street, Corvallis & Virtual. 5 p.m. Naturally-occurring variations in elements, called isotopes, can be used in a wide variety of ways in forensic studies. Ratios between isotopes of a given element can provide clues to animal and human diets, region of origin, travel history and other chronologies. Cerling will discuss several applications of isotopic analysis, including travel histories and origins of confiscated ivory. Thure Cerling is a distinguished professor of geology & geophysics and distinguished professor of biology at the University of Utah. He uses chemical isotopes to understand geological and ecological processes and applies that knowledge to interpret ancient and modern ecological and climatology records, to study wildlife and to understand the evolution of landscapes.
