Davis Family Farm Hayrides and Pumpkin Patch. Davis Family Farm, 4380 NE Highway 20, Corvallis. 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. $5.50*. Visit Davis Family Farm to enjoy hayrides to their pumpkin patch! Enjoy the scenic view of Mary’s Peak and scout out the perfect pumpkin, solve the corn maze, climb the hay pyramid, and take part in kids’ activities. You can buy pumpkins, gourds, mini-pumpkins, and fall veggies and apples while visiting, and of course, grab a bag of homemade donuts and fresh pressed apple cider. The farm stand is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through October, with public hayrides starting at 2 p.m. on weekdays, and starting at 9 a.m. on the weekends. Kenagy Family Farm Pumpkin Patch. 1650 NE North Nebergall Loop, Albany. 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. The lovely folks at Kenagy Family Farm are doing another pumpkin patch fundraiser. They will be accepting cash and check for all proceeds to be donated to Jackson Street Youth Services and ABC House two awesome organizations that serve youth in Linn and Benton counties. GreenGable Farm Pumpkin Patch & Corn Maze. GreenGable Farm, 24689 Grange Hall Rd., Philomath. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. $5+. GreenGable Farm offers 200+ pumpkins, gourds, and squashes for an autumn decorators paradise. Grab a provided wagon or a wheel barrel and have fun picking the best pumpkins you can find in the U-Pick Patch. The maze can be muddy This year their Corn Maze will also be a Scavenger Hunt. Purchase $5 tickets at the shop (babies and toddlers are free) search for all the black boxes throughout the maze, use the hole punches to punch your ticket and return to the Shop for a Free Gourd as a Prize! On rainy days or weeks, The maze can be muddy so be sure to bring appropriate boots. On the weekends in October GreenGable Farm will have freshly made Apple Cider Doughnuts for sale. This year’s activities will be open seven days a week 10:00 am – 6:00 p.m. Activities include Pumpkin patch (over 6 acres of pumpkins), Day maze w/trivia (over 4 miles of trail) – $6 (last entry into day maze is 5 p.m.), Super Slide – free, & Hay fort – free. The following activities will be open on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.: Hayride – $4 pp & Train ride (3 & under can’t ride alone) – $4 pp. The Melon Shack haunted corn maze will open on Friday September 29th – October 28th from 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm. This year, the Melon Shack has made a change, the haunted corn maze will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday’s from 7:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.  If you are in line by 10 p.m. you will enter the haunted maze! Cooks and Books: Salvadoran Cuisine. C3 (Corvallis Community Center), 2601 NW Tyler Ave, Corvallis. 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Join us for Cooks and Books, a free, in-person cooking demonstration and showcase of cookbooks. Learn how to prepare and sample a recipe demonstrated by a local chef as well as browse cookbooks related to the recipe and theme. The theme for October is Salvadoran cuisine with Arely Hanson of Pupuseria del Valle. Arely Hanson is the chef and owner of Pupuseria del Valle in Corvallis. Arely began the Pupuseria to celebrate the recipes and traditions passed down by her mother. She loves sharing her cultural favorite comfort foods and delicacies with her new community. Arely will demonstrate a recipe for panes rellenos, a beloved sauced chicken sandwich from Central America. Cooks and Books will also be happening on Thursday, January 25th at the same time and in the same place. Creepy Crawly Night at the Museum. Cordley Hall, first and second floors (west side), 2701 SW Campus Way, Corvallis. 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. It’s that time of year, when thoughts turn to skeletons, claws, and little furry things. Things hidden away. What better time to come visit some of OSU’s incredible research collections. This Halloween themed open house in Cordley Hall’s first and second floors (west side) will run from 5:30pm-8:00pm on October 26th.  Students in the OSU Bug Club, Integrative Biology Club, Botany Club, Herpetology Club and the Bird Nerds– are joining forces with the Oregon State Arthopod Collection and the OSU Herbarium to host this light-hearted (albeit ghoulish) event. Weave Me a Crooked Basket Book Launch Event with Charles Goodrich. Corvallis-Benton County Library, 645 NW Monroe Ave., Corvallis. 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. Free. Join us for the book launch event celebrating the new novel of beloved local writer Charles Goodrich. Charles will share details and excerpts from Weave Me a Crooked Basket, a novel featuring a ragtag troupe of land-defenders in a festival of resistance as they embark on a last-ditch effort to save a way of life on their farm that may disappear forever. Charles Goodrich is the author of four books of poetry, Watering the Rhubarb, A Scripture of Crows, Going to Seed: Dispatches from the Garden, and Insects of South Corvallis. He is also the author of a collection of essays, The Practice of Home, and has co-edited two anthologies, Forest Under Story: Creative Inquiry in an Old-Growth Forest and In the Blast Zone: Catastrophe and Renewal on Mount St. Helens. Following a long career as a professional gardener and a decade working with the Spring Creek Project, Charles writes and gardens at his home near the confluence of the Marys and Willamette Rivers. During a total eclipse, he discovers an unusual plant he names Audrey II, which feeds only on human flesh and blood.
