The Hacking Age. Remote. 7 p.m. Free. A cybersecurity lecture by David Kennedy. Attackers are continuously figuring out new methods to gain access to computer systems and enterprises. Everything from Ransomware to targeted and precise attacks aimed at intellectual property theft, monetary gain, or other motives. In today’s age of hacking, it’s never been more important to understand who the hackers are and the methods they use to attack organizations. In this talk, we go into the demographics of hackers, how they are hacking, and the best defenses both from a personal perspective as well as an enterprise. Purchase $5 tickets at the shop (babies and toddlers are free) search for all the black boxes throughout the maze, use the hole punches to punch your ticket and return to the Shop for a Free Gourd as a Prize! Sound, Gentrification, and Listening to Black Life. Memorial Union Building (MU), Multipurpose Room, 2501 SW Jefferson Way, Corvallis. Free. 5 p.m. Ethnomusicologist and artist Dr. Allie Martin directs the Black Sound Lab at Dartmouth College, a research environment dedicated to amplifying Black life and decriminalizing Black sound through digital practice. Her work explores the relationships between race, sound, and gentrification in Washington, DC. Utilizing a combination of ethnographic fieldwork and digital humanities methodologies, she considers how African American people experience  gentrification as a sonic, racialized process. Her work has been supported by the Ford Foundation, the Smithsonian Institution, the Society for American Music, and the American Musicological Society.
