Corvallis Increases Lodging Tax Appropriation

The Corvallis City Council approved a resolution that will increase the amount the city receives from payments to Benton County through local lodging taxes.

In a memo to the council from Ryan Seidl, Finance Director with the City of Corvallis, of the $927,000 in appropriations for Special Payments, $125,000 was designated for Benton County Lodging Taxes. In total, the city has collected $588,550 in lodging taxes on behalf of Benton County, which is $463,550 over the designated amount budgeted.

The resolution approved by the council at their meeting on Feb. 22 will allow for an increase of $464,000 to the General Fund Special Payments appropriations.

“The City of Corvallis has collected local lodging taxes on behalf of Benton County since July 1, 2019. On March 24, 2021, the city notified the County that as of June 30, 2021, the city would no longer be administering the program,” said Seidl.

The City of Corvallis collects lodging taxes on behalf of Benton County, Oregon under an intergovernmental agreement.

“Both the City and the County were scheduled to transfer administrative authority to the Oregon Department of Revenue. However, Benton County requested additional time to reach an agreement with DOR,” said Seidl. “The city agreed to the County’s request and will continue to administer the program for an additional two quarters.”
