Corvallis Remembers Hiroshima, Nagasaki

Join others at Riverfront Park in Corvallis on Thursday, August 5, to commemorate the 1945 atomic bombings that ended the Second World War. Beginning at 7:00 p.m. with traditional Japanese music, origami making, and lighting of candles, the event will feature speakers from the community in remembrance of the August 6 and August 9 bombings that changed the world.

After the ceremony, those present are welcome to walk to the Van Buren Bridge to see boats carrying lanterns to remember lives lost. With this gathering, Corvallisites will renew their “pledge to promote peace and end war.”

This event is sponsored by the Corvallis branch of Women’s International League of Peace & Freedom (WILPF) – an organization working for world peace since 1915, by Veterans For Peace Linus Pauling Chapter (VFP) – a group working to make sure everyone understands the true cost of war and inspiring activism for peace, and others.
