Corvallis Schools Seek Budget Committee Volunteers, Here’s How You Can Apply

The Corvallis School Board is looking for a few good humans, three of them to be precise, to serve on the District’s Budget Committee.

So, here’s how the Budget Committee works. It has 14 equal members, seven elected school board members and seven citizens appointed to three-year terms. The School Board does the appointing. These individuals are charged with reviewing the Superintendent’s Proposed Budget, listening to public comment regarding the budget, recommending changes, and approving the budget total and tax rates to be forwarded to the School Board for adoption.

There are requirements. Applicants have to live and be registered to vote in the District, and not be an officer, agent, or employee of the District. Positions are non-partisan, unpaid and not connected to any specific region within the district. Members with expired terms may request reappointment.

A release from the District adds, “In accordance with OAR 581-022-2307, the District is seeking at least one member of the District Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEDI) Committee to serve on the Budget Committee and current DEDI committee members will be given priority during the appointment process. Representation of DEDI on the budget committee helps align the district’s equity lens with financial processes, increasing understanding of fiscal priorities and strengthening underrepresented voices. This ensures budgets reflect equity, offering greater accountability to students, families, and communities.”

There are, of course, meetings, which are held in the evenings at District facilities. Here’s next year’s schedule:

Thursday, April 15, 2027 – Committee Orientation

Thursday, May 20, 2027 – Receive the Budget Message & Public Testimony, Deliberation & Approval

Thursday, May 27, 2027 – Deliberation & Approval, if needed

How to Apply, Deadline

Interested? You’ll need to submit an application online by the first review deadline, scheduled for October 29, 2026. Applications will be scored using the 2027 Budget Committee Application Rubric. Materials submitted will be public information (contact information removed). Positions will be open until filled by vote of the School Board.

Questions may be directed to Kim Nelson, Budget Committee Secretary: kimberly.nelson@corvallis.k12.or.us or 541-757-5994.
