County Planners Favor Landfill Expansion, Hearings Start Wednesday

The Benton County Planning Division weighed in last week about a proposed expansion of the Coffin Butte landfill, their staff report calls for approval. The matter is actually on appeal now. Two days of hearings are scheduled on the matter for this week, and deliberations will come in November.

Earlier this year, County staff recommended approval, but the Benton County Planning Commission rejected Republic Services’ application unanimously. The company then responded with the appeal to the Benton County Board of Commissioners; their hearing and deliberations schedule is below.

Submitting verbal and written testimony

Members of the public are invited to submit written comment. Visit the Submit Written Testimony webpage for submission instructions and deadlines.

The public can also sign up to share verbal testimony at the hearing by completing the online registration form. In-person registration will be open from 4:30-5:30 pm on October 22 at the hearing venue.
