We have a reminder for local restauranters seeking to start or continue outdoor offerings – but before we get to that story, we think we should catch you up on what’s happening with franchised fooderies in our sweet little neck of the woods.
First, and because, as the saying goes, life is short, so eat dessert first, we remind a Crumbl Cookies swung its doors open on 9th back in October. It’s a guilty pleasure – easy to rationalize with an added few minutes of gym time. And sometimes, guilt feels good.
But then, just a couple weeks ago, delicious went powerfully healthy with the opening of yet another chain. Everbowl hit downtown with their quick-serve fully customizable craft superfood concept. It’s açai based, and you can add the nuts, granola, and boatloads of a variety of fruit to your own taste – and we could go on about the taste – but just one word, delish. Also, not feeling guilty.
And now that we’ve built some buzz, we’ll kill it.
The ever-controversial Chick-fil-A has taken another step toward waddling its deep-fried menu into town – having started to raze the old building on the future site of their planned double drive-up sandwich slinging operation. The lot once housed a seafood restaurant on Circle Boulevard and Highway 99. The Chick-fil-A founding family has reportedly given millions to organizations that oppose gay marriage and support conversion therapy – but now they say they don’t do that anymore.
And boy, have we received emails from Weinerschnitzel. They advertise themselves as the world’s largest hot dog chain in the world – and who are we to doubt – and they’re looking for prospective franchisees specific to Corvallis. Not totally unexpected. They’ve been on a growth tare of late, and they have demonstrated serious interest in the Northwest. If you’re interested, click here to learn more. Also, a confession, there are fitness and foodie freaks at this newspaper that will sometimes down a Weinerschnitzel chili dog while road-tripping. Your humble reporter will not reveal identities.
Outdoor dining
It is a rite of spring in these parts – hints of cuisine plein-air to come. It is the press release from the City of Corvallis reminding all our local restaurant owner-manager types to apply for their yearly outdoor dining permit.
So, without further ado, and a hint of naughtiness inserted – the press release…
The 2025 Business Use of the Right of Way (BROW) program is accepting applications for the upcoming season. Applications are available on April 1. The program begins on May 1 and runs through October 31.
Mmm, BROW. Sexy, yes. Okay, back to the press release…
The BROW program allows restaurants to apply for permits to use a portion of the on-street parking adjacent to their business as an outdoor dining area. Up to three parking spaces may be requested per application. Permits must be renewed each year. Read more about the BROW program and start an application online by visiting the City website: https://www.corvallisoregon.gov/ds/page/outdoor-dining-programs
For more information about the BROW program, contact Christopher Jacobs at 541-766-6339 or Christopher.Jacobs@corvallisoregon.gov.
You just didn’t know a City permit could feel like this, right. BROW, mmm.
