From Bad to Verse: Modern American Dream

Modern American Dream

She told me she was “Living the dream”

But today it comes In a different scheme

Instead of a doctor

Taking care of ills

She’s happy when she can

Pay her bills

Instead of a house

Constructed of brick

She’s hoping her boss

Lets her stay home when sick

She’s no longer decorating

The house with plants

She’s struggling to slim down

To fit into stretch pants

She can’t take a day off

To stare at the skies

She just wants to sleep in

Until it’s sunrise

Instead of a job

That’s rich and compelling

It’s hoping she can stop

Her plasma selling

Where once a good job

Had many a perk

Now she hopes to cut down

To two places to work

Society’s plumbing

Has a clog at the top

That’s where all of the money

Has come to a stop

It’s not trickling down

From the billionaire’s tubs

It’s paying for mansions,

Excesses and clubs

The solution is simple

If Congress enacts

Wealth redistribution

A billionaire tax

To get America stronger

Much fitter and leaner

We must pour in the system

A bit of drain cleaner

Then, when pipes get unclogged

Cash flow will start coming

As that pool stuck on top

Fills up all of the plumbing

And then everyone

Will reach their potential

When the pay matches work

Everyone knows is essential
