From Bad to Verse: Mr. Nice Guy, the Value of Trees, Ode to Dandelions

Paper View

Trees are very valuable things

Pulling CO2 from the air

Providing animal habitats

And beauty everywhere

Much money comes from cutting them

A sad fact and conundrum

With Weyerhauser and the Treasury

Making money from ‘em

Outside the Box”

It’s worse than mixing

Metaphors

That the Interior department

Manages the outdoors

One Lie-ner

Unconventional orchestra conductors think outside the Bachs

Mr. Nice Guy

Mr. Nice Guy did yard work

It was his avocation

Cutting lawns from nine to five

Never taking a vacation

One day he up and left town

My dad was upset, here’s why

He said things would never be the same

Cuz there’d be no mower, Mr. Nice Guy

O Dandelion

O dandelion that I see

All beautiful and yellowy

Your hours are lowly numbered

Gardeners have you in their sights

Prepare for reading of last rites

Cuz you will soon succumber

A sunny, cheerful, common weed

That will not get to spread its seed

Because it is the target

Of pulling, yanking, and indeed

The chemicals in Weed and Feed

On sale at Garland’s market
