As if the current gas prices weren’t enough, it’s looking as though the Pacific Northwestwill be seeing yet another increase in prices for that sweet, sweet fossilized dino goo.
As reported by AAA Oregon and Idaho, a single barrel of oil is going to cost near $120, with more than a quarter of all states having gas at an average price of at least $5 per gallon, and this news is making it seem as though the prices will continue to rise nationwide.
The national average for regular fuel rose this week by 30 cents, up to $4.92 per gallon, whereas Oregon’s average went up 25 cents to $5.46 per gallon.
Both are record highs according to AAA Oregon and Idaho, and new record highs are coming each day.
The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Corvallis as of June 8 was $5.40, which was up from $5.35 on the day before and up from $5.14 one week ago. The average cost of gas in Portland has risen $2.04 in the past year, to an average of $5.51, while California remains the only state with an average above $6 per gallon.
AAA Oregon and Idaho told KOIN news that “The West Coast region continues to have the most expensive pump prices in the nation with all seven states in the top 10. This is typical for the West Coast as this region tends to consistently have fairly tight supplies, consuming about as much gasoline as is produced.”
All in all, over 74 weeks, no state has averaged below $2 a gallon.
