After cutting at least two reporters from its staff last month, the Gazette-Times (GT) has now announced the closure of their Corvallis office. Operations are to be moved to the Democrat-Herald office in Albany. Both newspapers are owned by Iowa-based parent company, Lee Enterprises.
Initial signs were hopeful after the company emerged from a 2012 bankruptcy, but the GT has steadily reduced its staff and physical presence in Corvallis since. It sold its downtown headquarters in 2013, moving into offices at Kings and Circle. Prior to this year’s round of staff cuts, the GT laid off a number of well regarded reporters in 2015.
