Maughan Selected for National Mayoral Cohort: City of Corvallis Mayor Charles Maughan was selected as one of 12 mayors nationwide to take part in the New Mayors Cohort, organized through the Mayors Innovation Project.

In an event held from May 17 to 19 in Madison, Wisconsin, 12 participating mayors attended sessions on a variety of topics including equitable leadership and priority setting, and communications and time management skills to support effective leadership.

Over the coming months, cohort members will meet virtually with other current and former mayors to share experiences and identify solutions to their unique challenges as mayors in their first terms aiming to advance solutions that center equity, sustainability, and democracy, according to a release from the city.

Councilor Lewis Slated for Public Q&A Session: Corvallis City Council member Briae Lewis will be the next councilor to host the Government Comment Corner on Saturday, June 17.

Lewis will be in the lobby of the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. This is open to any resident who wants to stop by and ask questions about local government.

Reminder, West Hills Road Open House on Wednesday: Benton County and the City of Corvallis are gearing up for a joint open house for the corridor plan currently underway on SW West Hills Road between Western Blvd and 53rd Street.

The project aims to develop alternative design concepts of the street that may inform future development or a not-yet-funded construction project, according to a release from the county.

West Hills Road has some unique constraints that challenge installation of standard road improvements; therefore, the City and County are partnering to identify what the future urban section will look like as development occurs along the corridor.”

Officials with both the city and county are hoping for community members to provide feedback on the initial concept for the project.

The open house will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m., June 13, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 4515 SW West Hills Road. There is no formal presentation; you can drop by anytime to view exhibits and speak with the project team, according to the release.

Community members can also view the open house information and contact the project team at: www.co.benton.or.us/publicworks/project/sw-west-hills-road-corridor-plan
