Government: Voter Information, Non-Emergency Complaint Forms, Ways to Lend a Hand Around Town

We talk a lot about the upcoming elections, because elections are the lifeblood of how we run our country, county, and city. And this year, as you might have noted on Tuesday, we have the opportunity to “hire” a new Mayor, new City Councilmembers, a new County Commissioner, and a new governor.

So now we’re going to direct your attention to the Benton County Voter Registration website. You can find out if you’re registered to vote, and if you’re not, you can register. You can also request an absentee ballot if you’re planning to be out of town come Nov. 8 – this is useful for members of the military, snowbirds, students, or even people who simply have to be in Japan that month.

And lastly, you can just find data there – like how many Republicans, Libertarians, and Democrats live in Benton County. Or even how many people in your precinct will likely vote Pacific Green.

Reporting Non-Emergencies: Schools are beginning to open again, which means that we will see a plethora of new faces, cars, and problems arise.

If you are having an issue with new noisy neighbors, abandoned cars in front of your home, or abandoned bicycles in the front yard, please contact Corvallis Police by reporting the problem online. The CPD has created a simple way to access and fill out forms for non-emergency problems such as the ones listed above, as well as potholes or burned out street lights, graffiti on public signs, garbage in park areas, standing water which causes a mosquito hazard, rental housing issues, and more.

Corvallis Volunteering Opportunities: Corvallisites have a record for stepping up to lend a hand when one is needed. Can you imagine what this city would be like without that unique level of volunteerism? Well, there are a few places that need a few people to come forward.

Parks & Recreation has openings for people to assist at several locations. You can find more details and applications at the Parks & Rec website. Also looking for some help is the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, where they could use a hand keeping the shelves organized, help finding holds, and problem solving public computer issues. Find out how to help at the library here. If neither of these places are up your alley, then check out other places where a few good hands could save the day at the City of Corvallis Volunteer website.
