Every Friday from May 14 to June 11, between 12:00 – 2:30 p.m., Oregon State University’s Human Services Resource Center is supplying healthy nutrition for low-income community members. Eligible staff and students will be able to pick up a “Healthy Beaver Bag” at the Champinefu Lodge (formerly Avery Lodge) at 1030 SW Madison Ave.
Beside Healthy Beaver Bag program, the HSRC’s organizes a Food Pantry which distributes monthly boxes comprised of shelf-stable, frozen protein and dairy, and fresh items to all food-insecure students, staff, and community members. Those who receive help from SNAP, TANF, SSI, etc are eligible to receive food from the pantry as needed per month regardless even if they are not associated with OSU. Eligibility is only related to the income of the recipient.
The boxes can be prepared as Halal, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc.
In Benton County, several organizations are operating food pantries for food-insecure community members. Volunteers, contributors, and those in need can contact Linn Benton Food Share (LBFS) located at 545 SW 2nd St. in Corvallis, or call 541-752-1010.
