Hyundai and Kia have issued a recall on a string of nearly 485,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a long string of fire and engine problems over the past six years. The two automotive manufacturers are advising that owners of the recalled vehicles should park their cars outside of their homes, on the street. This is because the vehicles can catch fire – even if their engines aren’t on.
The current issue that the automotive manufacturers are addressing is a contamination of the anti-lock brake control module, which causes an electrical short.
Affected models include:
- Kia Sportage SUVs from 2014-2016;
- K900 Kia 2016-2018 sedans;
- Hyundai 2016-2018 Santa Fe SUVs;
- Hyundai 2017-2018 Santa Fe Sports;
- Hyundai 2019 Santa Fe XL; and,
- Hyundai 2014-2015 Tuscon SUVs.
Dealers will replace a fuse, and Hyundai dealers will inspect the control modules and replace them as needed.
