Corvallis-OSU Piano International will present internationally acclaimed American pianist Clayton Stephenson in a special “concert with commentary” on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 7:30 pm at the LaSells Stewart Center.

Stephenson is widely recognized as one of the most compelling pianists of his generation. A 2022 Gilmore Young Artist and finalist of the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, he has drawn international attention for performances that combine virtuosity, emotional depth, and a distinctive artistic voice.

Critics have praised his playing as “not just a remarkable virtuoso, but a poet, a dramatist and a master story-teller” (Gramophone), highlighting both his technical brilliance and his ability to communicate directly with audiences.

Appearances by artists of Stephenson’s caliber are rare in smaller university communities, making this event a notable opportunity for Corvallis audiences to experience a pianist of international standing in an intimate concert setting.

The program spans a wide range of styles and traditions, including Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, selections from Albéniz’s Iberia, and beloved American works such as Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Keith Jarrett’s transcription of Over the Rainbow.

Presented as a “concert with commentary,” the evening will also feature Stephenson’s personal reflections and spoken introductions, offering audiences insight into both the music and his artistic process.

Tickets are available at corvallispiano.org and at the door.

Admission is free for students (college students with ID) — K-12 and college students are welcome to walk in.
