It’s Only a Worm Moon . . . Wait, a WHAT?

“The Moon will be full on Friday, the 18th, and it’s what’s known as a Worm Moon.”

“Does that mean that if you’ve been bitten by a worm, it’s the night you’ll transform into a were-worm?”

“Uhhh…it might…if worms had teeth. Don’t think they do, though. But, no, it’s one of several names that means it’s the full Moon just before the Vernal Equinox.”

“Oh, I know that one: the 21st of March, the beginning of Spring.”

“Right. You knew that one was coming right up, since Pi Day was just the other day, and Daylight Savings Time began the other day, too.”

“Yeah. So, you said there were other names for the last full Moon before the beginning of Spring?”

“Yes, according to NASA it’s also called the Crow Moon, the Crust Moon, the Lenten Moon (this is the fifth week of Lent, in case only Mardi Gras mattered to you, heathen), the Sap Moon, the Purim Moon, the Holi Moon, the Sugar Moon, the Pothole Moon and possibly the Beetle Moon.”

“Okay, so I’m not going to worry about that worm that bit me just now, in that case.”

“Um, I would definitely worry about that. Worms don’t have teeth.”
