Jackson Street Youth Shelter Grand Re-Opening, June 1

Jackson Street Youth Shelter had closed the 24/7 shelter from which they started decades ago- it was in need of repairs and renovations. And now, all that work is done, and they’re inviting the community to a grand re-opening.

Running from 4 to 6 pm, Thursday, June 1. the site is located at 555 Jackson Street, in downtown Corvallis.  It’s an opportunity to get a quick tour of the space, talk with their program staff, and celebrate what the organization sees as a huge milestone in their program’s history.

In a release from the nonprofit, “After nearly 22 years of serving youth from this site, we are thrilled to show a truly transformed space. Thanks to community generosity and the incredible help from a donor-builder, the completely renovated house is ready to welcome youth ages 10-17 back into the house.”

Back in 2001, this was their only location, and their primary program. Now, the organization has Next Steps programs in both Corvallis and Albany, as well as a whole other shelter in Albany.

By the way, it’s totally optional, but you could bring a housewarming gift that would be useful to the program. Here’s what they could use:

  • Individually wrapped snacks
  • Hair Ties, brushes, combs, make up, nail polish
  • Hygiene items (not hotel or family size)
  • Youth/Young Adult book series (new or in good condition)
  • Board/Card games (new or in good condition)
  • Fidgets
  • Nintendo Switch group/family games & accessories
