Laurie Bridges, a humanities librarian and Director of the AI Literacy Center at Oregon State University, will review Code Dependent: Living in the Shadow of AI, by Madhumita Murgia, as part of the library’s Random Review series on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at noon.

About Madhumita and her book
Madhumita Murgia is an award winning journalist and TEDx speaker on the brain, technology, and artificial intelligence. Formerly the lead technology writer for The Telegraph, she is currently the inaugural artificial intelligence editor for Financial Times. She specializes in technology’s impacts on society, surveillance, data privacy, and tech regulation. A native of Mumbai, she studied biology at Oxford and science journalism at New York University.
About Laurie Bridges
Laurie Bridges is a humanities librarian and director of the AI Literacy Center at OSU. Her teaching and research are focused on advancing critical AI literacy. She aims to help people thoughtfully engage with GenAI, recognizing both its potential and risks. Her OSU Honors College colloquium, Generative AI and Society, explores the societal implications of emerging AI technologies. In and outside of the classroom, she facilitates conversations about the ethical considerations of GenAI, including bias in training data, privacy concerns, the generation of misinformation, and the need for responsible AI policy and regulation.
