Library to Host Review of Anthony Fauci’s ‘On Call: A Doctor’s Journey in Public Service’

David Grube, M.D., will review On Call: A Doctor’s Journey in Public Service by Anthony Fauci as part of the library’s Random Review series.

On Call is the immensely readable memoir of Anthony Fauci, M.D., perhaps the one doctor in the United States and even the world who needs no introduction. His biography begins with his boyhood in Brooklyn and ends in semi-retirement following Fauci’s tumultuous tenure as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases during the early years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Along the way, Dr. Fauci served more than half a century with the National Institutes of Health, advising every U.S. president from Ronald Reagan to Joe Biden. His research and leadership were key in numerous public health initiatives during those years including swine flu and Ebola, and especially his contributions to HIV/AIDS research. President George W. Bush awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award, for his work on the AIDS relief program known as PEPFAR.
