Local Journalists Discuss Misinformation and Elections this Wednesday

With November’s election approaching and the local journalism scene shifting, four area media figures are set to appear this week for a program titled “How Misinformation Distorts Elections: The Role of Local Journalism.”

Free to the public, the program happens Wednesday, August 19 from 6:30 to 8 pm at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, 645 NW Monroe Avenue.

Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Corvallis, it’s the first of a three-part pre-midterm election series titled “Truth, Trust, and Democracy: Information, Elections, and Voter Confidence.”

The Panelists

Penny Rosenberg, former editor of the Corvallis Gazette-Times who is now an investigative reporter with the Oregon Journalism Project

Steve Schultz, editor and publisher of The Corvallis Advocate

Dan Crall, station manager of KORC

Jim Rondeau, station manager of KLCC

Program Format

Following an initial series of questions posed by the League, audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions of the panelists. The program will also include a chance for attendees to participate in small group discussions in response to what they’ve heard. Light refreshments will be served.

According to a release from the League, the goal of the “Truth, Trust, and Democracy” series is to increase voter confidence, clarity, and informed participation. The other two programs in the series will be on September 16 and October 21. For further details, visit https://lwvcorvallis.org.
