A new study conducted by Ipsos Retail Performance found that Oregon is the most “consistently” vegan state, followed by Vermont, Washington, and California.
The study, based is based on search values over a 15 year period.
The study itself compared differences between states and their adoption of veganism over the 15 year period. Oregon achieved the highest search value of all fifty states for 12 years out of 15. Across the entire U.S., the number of people pursuing a plant-based diet is up by 9.4 million in the past 15 years.
The study also reported on the least consistently vegan states, which included Mississippi, South Dakota, Alabama, and North Dakota. Data also showed that political affiliation has a correlation with veganism — the top ten most vegan states are largely blue, while the bottom ten are largely red. The report also found that Nevada is showing more willingness to adopt veganism (with a 38 point increase in vegan searches), while New Hampshire is straying away from it (31 point decrease).
Over the 15 years reported on, the West Coast and North Eastern states were the first to show interest in veganism, with states following their lead beginning around 2013, due to celebrity advertising and more meat alternatives becoming available.
