Northside Open Studios Tour this Coming Weekend, Arts and Causes

At the upcoming Northside Open Studios Tour, or NOST, the participating Corvallis artists are committed to celebrating spring – and they’re also looking to connect with the community and support locals experiencing hardship.

Slated for 10 am to 4 pm, Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27, this third annual NOST will be donating a portion of proceeds to Vina Moses and the Goodfoot Farms, Everybody Eats program. Last year, donated proceeds reached $3,500 and the organizers have been working to attract local businesses and individuals willing to match whatever is raised this year.

Ceramic Artist Avie Meadows says, “There is a lot that we can do as humans, neighbors, and artists to create positive and lasting change in our local community. I believe that by creating and participating in events like NOST allows us the opportunity to connect and see the world through different eyes we can continue to find ways to better support each other.”

The Tour

This is a home studio tour, with over 50 artists -including youth artists- at 15 locations. This free annual event has quickly become a springtime highlight in Corvallis. The quality and scope of the work for sale stands out to viewers. Mediums include: paintings, functional and sculptural ceramics, glass art, fiber art, watercolor, jewelry, collage, woodworking, mixed media, and much more.

The organizers are encouraging visitors to either walk, bike or carpool, and they’re of course hoping you’ll try to visit every studio – and we think that if you peruse their website you just may find yourself motivated to do that.

Their site, as one would expect, has all the addresses and information one would need to navigate the tour.

If you’re pressed for time, a few studio highlights include locations A and O. At location A, host artist Michael Baldree demonstrates how to use his vintage chain stitch machines, and his work is highly skilled. At location O, host Artist Jen Galvin has a fascinating pulp painting process that shouldn’t be missed.
