Thanks to the federal infrastructure package, the Oregon Department of Transportation will be awarded over one billion dollars in funding. The funds will allegedly be put towards statewide projects, fighting climate change, and road and bridge repairs. ODOT claims that Oregon drivers, transit drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians will all see the benefits of this funding and that many of these projects are ready to begin or are reaching that point.
Oregon Transportation Commission Chair Bob Van Brocklin said in a statement that these new assets will aid in the comprehensive mobility system, resolving issues related to earthquake preparedness, congestion, and passenger rail. Van Brocklin noted that congestion is a growing problem in Oregon cities as populations continue to expand.
“All of this work will focus on improving our economy, our environment, and the quality of life of all Oregonians,” said Brocklin. “Working together, we can attain this vision.”
More information regarding the new funding will be shared this week on ODOT’s website.
