ODOT Makes Roadtripping Easier

If you’re someone who has a hard time planning trips, this one’s for you. A new interactive map developed by Travel Oregon and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) gives you all the information you need to finally go on that weekend getaway you’ve been talking about.

There are 29 road trips within Oregon mapped out, each color coded to represent the byway type: All-American roads, National Scenic Byways, Oregon State Scenic Byways, and the Oregon Tour Route.

Each byway comes with a list of activities to do along the way. The Mary’s Peak to Pacific Scenic Byway, which starts off of I-5 and goes through Corvallis, has eight different suggested stops on the way to the final destination of Waldport.

Locals may recognize some of the highlights along this byway including the William L. Finley National Wildlife Refuge, Hayden Covered Bridge, and Alsea Bay Historic Interpretive Center. The 72-mile trip to the coast can be safely traveled year-round — no need to wait for warmer weather to make the drive.

Whether you’re feeling adventurous and want to head east to visit the Wallowa Mountains, or simply want to take a day trip to the beach, the Oregon Scenic Byways Story Map has you covered.
