According to data compiled by marijuana company Verilife, the state of Oregon has the most dispensaries per capita in the United States.
For their United States of Weed list, Verilife analyzed public records, dispensary listings and marijuana tax revenue from 600 cities in 36 states. Oregon, which legalized medicinal marijuana in 1998 and recreation marijuana in 2014, took the top spot with 660 dispensaries statewide, equating to 16.5 for every 100,000 residents. Following in second and third are Oklahoma with 15.6 and Montana with 15.1.
The first two states to legalize recreational marijuana ranked surprisingly low — Colorado was placed at fourth with 14.1 per 100,000 residents, and Washington only made sixth place with 6.2.
Verilife also listed the top 30 cities for most dispensaries per capita, eight of which can be found here in Oregon. Medford ranked first in the state and second nationwide with 17 dispensaries per 50,000 people. Eugene took fourth place nationally, followed by Portland in sixth, Salem in ninth, Bend in 11th, Corvallis in 16th, Springfield in 19th and Beaverton in 26th.
However, in terms of tax revenues the state only ranks fourth, despite having made an impressive $94,400,000 from marijuana sales in 2018.
