Oregon Wants Students in Schools

The Oregon Department of Education released a “Resiliency Framework,” outlining various advisories regarding Covid-19 and K-12 Education, on July 22. The 23 page document describes itself as “advisory.”

Much of the decision making will be left up to local school districts, however, the document does mandate that, “For the 2021-2022 school year, schools must plan to provide full-time, in-person education for all students every school day.”

There are still provisions that allow schools to close if needed. Saying “In general decisions of school health and safety reside with school and district officials.”

“If part of or an entire school needs to close to in-person instruction as a matter of public health, it is important that educators, students, families, and the general public have a clear understanding of how decisions are made and who makes those decisions,” the document said.

Rob Manning at Oregon Public Broadcasting reports that school officials have until August 23 to share their plans for the upcoming school year.
