Osborn to Open Outdoor Pool for Limited Hours, Starts March 3

Osborn Aquatic’s outdoor lap pool is set to reopen Monday, March 3, but the hours will be limited to 5:30 to 7 pm, Mondays to Fridays. The facility will start by offering lap swims and team practices, but then gradually expand hours and programs in the coming months.

“We’re pleased to announce that we’ve received clearance to operate the outdoor pools and select indoor areas at the facility! City staff have been working diligently over the past few weeks to prepare for reopening, and we will take a phased approach to resuming facility operations and program offerings,” according to a release from Osborn.

They also said the modified hours and outdoor operations are temporary, and the facility will need to close again when major repairs are scheduled, but that they anticipate continuing modified operations through summer.

What will be available

  • The lobby restrooms, four private changing rooms, with showers, time limits will apply.
  • Outdoor restrooms/private changing room, with a shower, time limits will apply.
  • Bleachers and tents available on deck for use.
  • The time limits apply to shower and changing areas because of the limited facilities.
  • Towels available for memberships only or rental fee $1 per use.

Very restricted locker availability

  • The indoor locker rooms and lockers will not be available for use. There are limited lockers available, located by the private changing rooms, and they will be day use only.

Why they closed in the first place

In September 2024, routine maintenance on light fixtures at Osborn Aquatic Center revealed rust and corrosion on the steel beams that support the roof over the natatorium – which is the part of the building that houses the indoor pool, restrooms, and staff work areas.

The City of Corvallis closed the Aquatic Center on October 2, pending further technical evaluation.

Since then, City staff from numerous departments have worked to coordinate with inspectors and engineers on a plan to assess and repair the problems at Osborn.
